One last thing ... ... ... FINALLY :)

  • What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
    • My favorite discovery was definitely the animoto. The reason is because my husband is deployed right now and I was able to make a video to send to my husband! :)
  • How has this program affected your lifelong learning goals?
    • I do not think that this has really effected my goals, but it may be easier to reach my goals because I now have so many new resources to use. I will use these new resources for my teacher career, as well as my journey as a student.
  • Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
    • Going into this program, i did not think i was going to learn anything new. I worked every day in the army with computer and different programs. I was surprised because I learned so much in this class and am glad that I was required to take this course.
  • What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
    • I took this course over a month and I think that four months would be a long time for this course. maybe this course could be shortened during the year as well or offered at Ft. Campbell,
  • How will what you have learned influence your practice as a teacher?
    • I will use technology much more, now that I have all of this knowledge. I did not know before this course how much technology would be able to help me in the classroom.
  • How do you plan to keep up with new developments in web 2.0? Recommend a way that you have found to be useful.
    • I would keep up with the blogs and accounts that I have made for this class.

Thing #23

We have already had an assignment about the creative commons. I would use this to explain to my students about how they can use other peoples work legally, without stealing it. The creative commons is so easy to understand and explains to people what they can and cannot do with others work. People work very hard to create different works and it was very important for children to understand that it is not okay to steel other peoples work.  As a teacher it is my responsibility to make sure that my students know who to use people work.

Thing #21

Family

This was my favorite project of the 23 things. I will use this website again. I sent a copy of this to my husband, who is deployed.

Thing #22

There three binders that I made were named the following:

-ART education - which was all about art education

-FUN PROJECTS - which is a binder all about art projects

-ART HISTORY - a binder all full of art history links

Binders would be a great resource in the classroom. I as a teacher would be able to put all my lesson plans into a neat binder online. I plan on using lesson plans that I find online and this would be perfect to keep them neat. I can also use this website to allow parents to see what kind of websites that I may be using in my lessons.

Thing #20

I like to use Youtube. I use this mostly for finding out how to do things around the house. There are videos about anything you could even imagine. I also like that when you are done watching a video, there are a list of many videos that are related to the one I was watching.

I think that libraries should take a Que from Youtube. I think that it would be a great idea for library websites to have a list of books and articles like the one that you would be currently looking at.

Teachers would be able to use this website to look up lesson and see a video of them. Another thing teachers could use this website for is finding art projects. I am going to be an art teacher and think that this would be a great resource for finding examples of art projects.

Thing #19

I am a member of facebook, but that is about all that I am involved in because like I previously mentioned in another post, it makes it easy to keep in touch with old friends and school mates.

I enoyed exploring Bake space. I thought this was an interesting social website and took my time going through all of the pages. You can get different recipes and share your own with others. This is a great website for anyone that like to cook. I love to cook and think that I will keep up with this websites.

I think it is so interesting that there are social websites for any kind of interests. With these kinds of websites it makes it easy to find friends that have the same interests as you. This "thing" opened my eyes to the big world of social websites.

Thing #18

I had a facebook before this class and have used it ever since I have moved away from my home town. I was in the army and was traveling all over, so social websites made it easy to keep in touch with my friends. Now that I am out of the army I live in KY and am far away from my OH friends. I use facebook daily and will keep this social profile for a long time to come I am sure.

I now have a twitter account because I was required to make one in a earlier assignment. I do not really like twitter and do not think I will be using the website in the future.

Thing #17

This website can be useful in the classroom. It is very important for a teacher to keep all of their information organized. This website allows you to keep bookmarks of all sorts of pages. This website allows teachers to see what new trending websites are out and find any information that they may need. Teachers can keep social sites organized as well as other kinds of websites, as well.

As a teacher I can use this website to keep all of my resource websites together in one place. I can also use this website to put all of my websites with lesson plans on them organized as well.

Thing #16

I chose to create a Google start page. The reason that I chose a Google start page is because I am most familiar with Google and Google is my home page right now. I do not think that I will make this my homepage because I do not like to have to much clutter on my homepage. The plain Google page is what I prefer because it is nice and simple.

Online calenders can be very useful because they can keep all of a teachers dates in one place. As a teacher I will have many important dates to keep track, whether it be for grades or for tests.

The to do list are not something I would use. This is because I like to hand write my to do lists, there is something that I like about crossing things i have completed off of my list. I do not think they are too much, just not something that I would want to have.

The tool that I liked the best was the home pages. I don't think I would use them personally, but I think they are the most interesting out off everything.

Thing #15

I could use wikis when I start teaching to put together lesson plan. Using sandboxes I would be able to use information and make up documents to use in my own classroom. There is allot of good information on wiki that would be able to be used my my own classroom.

I have used wikis allot throughout my career as a student and I did not know as much I though. I learned alot about wiki throughout this "thing:.

Thing #14

Flowchart.com and Mindmeister.

I have used flow charts more than I would have liked. The army uses them all the time and my job in the army included making them to show the chain of command, phone charts, squads and platoons. They make information very neat and easy to understand. They allow people to see the flow of information.

I think the flow charts are much more neat then mind maps in my opinion. This is most likely because I am more used to and comfortable with the flow charts.

I chose these two sites because I wanted to chose a site which used flow charts and another website that used mind maps. This is because like I have stated earlier I do not have much experience with mind charts and wanted to learn a little more about them.

Thing #13

Zoho Writer allows you to use a word processor and share your creations online. You can also make documents if you do not have internet, you can make up to 25 documents offline. You can make changes to the documents and save them for future use. You can either choose to share you documents or choose not to share your documents.

Google Docs is another word processing resource, which I prefer over Zoho Writer. This is most likely because I have used it before and find it easier to navigate through. The website is easier to find, since most people have already used Google they know where to find it.

https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1214uLfacPCL0KQ2raP_M4ld48Cw1UdHD1BCk9ibGYQI/edit?hl=en_US

The above link is an example of a Google docs drawing that I created.

Google docs would be great to use in a classroom because students would be able to make documents and pictures to share with their classmates. The creations can be saved and shared. This is a good way to save paper as well. If students created the documents, they could just email the documents to their classroom, instead of printing them out and giving them to their classmates. Students could give each other feed back on paper or projects as well.

Thing #12

I recently explored some tools on Google, including translate and alerts.

First I explored the Google tool of Alerts. This tool allows people to get alerts daily from Google. Google asks you for the key words or words that you would like to receive alerts about and then sends you daily alerts on that key word. I chose the key words art education and now Google sends me alerts daily about the best news on art education.

The second tool that I explored was Google translate. I have used this tool before in my Spanish class. I used many sited that were written in Spanish for reports and this site will help you translate entire sites. No matter what language the words are written in this tool can translate for you, weather it is only one word or a entire passage. The only problem with this site is that some words don't translate quite right, but that is to be expected with any translation site.

Thing #11

I thought that the Google blog search was the easiest search to use. It is most likely the easiest for me to use because it is much like using just regular old Google!

The most confusing search would have to be technortati, this is because there was allot of clutter on the home page and although the actual searching process was fairly easy you have to look for a minuet to actually find the search bar!

I tried to find some feeds that I could actually use when I start to teach, this would include feeds about art, art history and teaching!! Which were easier to find than I thought they would be.

Like any search engines there were some random results that came up with the results that I was actually looking for. I found an article about how police found stolen art in the trunk of a car, during a routine traffic stop.

Thing #10

The thing that I like about RSS and newsreaders is that you can choose a selection of news feeds that you want to keep up with and subscribe to them. This way when you log onto Google reader and all of the places that you subscribed to are up and waiting for you when you log on.

This took is one of my favorites of the 23 things. The reason being is that I think it is one of the most educational. A teacher could have all of their students create a Google reader account and subscribe to specific news feeds. This way all of the students would be able to view the same current events by just logging onto Google reader.

Students could also use this to find their own current events very easily to share with the class. As well as just to use for personal use.

I personally subscribed to many sports news feeds. This way i will not have to go searching every day. This information will all be in a organized place for me to go and read.

Thing #9

Letter Soup

This image was super easy to create. http://www.imagechef.com/ was the website that I used. All you have to do is go to the website and choose a application that you want to use. I chose the soup, so I clicked on the link. Once I got to the application that I wanted to use I just typed the phase is the text box and clicked preview. BAM it was created, pretty easy huh?

Sidewalk
I made this image the exact same way as the above.

This entire website was very easy to use and definitely easy enough for my students to use!

I like the idea of using these kind of images in power points. For a students who has not used these kinds of websites before, this would be very interesting. I personally have never used these kinds of websites before and think that they are very cool.

Thing #8

letter Hletter E354/1000 - Letter \"L\"pink tag letter Lletter O

I really enjoyed exploring these websites. They would be nice to use in my classrooms to make fun signs about lessons.  I am planning to be a elementary art teacher and this would be a good inspiration for art projects. The students could explore these websites and then make their own signs using art materials rather than the websites.

Thing #7

I chose the group Pink Think. I used the key work pink under the group section. This group posts pictures of pink nature, they allow their group members to share photos that they have taken that are anything to do with pink.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/pinkthink/

I enjoyed looking through these photos because there were so many different kinds of items in the photos, but somehow they all have something to do with pink :)

This website was VERY easy to use, you can find any kind of photos using key works. Also you are able to find a group with any kind of interest. Which means that you can find a group that you can relate to and join if you want.

Thing #6

I chose to explore firefox. The reason that I chose this is because this is the browser that I use day to day and prefer it to other browsers that are out there. This is a free browser, that has been working hard to remove many of the bugs that they have encountered.

My dad owns his own computer repair shot and he recommends this browser. He says that there are less bugs, less viruses and that it is on over trust able browser.

Something that I dint like about his browser, is that you cant type your search directly in your address bar, like you can in google chrome.

Many websites will not run of off this browser which is inconvenient. I have have to keep an internet explorer as well to work many of the websites that are required for my schooling.

Thing #5

Web 2.0 is a little over kill to me. I believe that people today put to much social emphasis on computers and technology.  I am not a very social person and perhaps that is why I do not understand the hype behind it all. I understand the benefits, but their has to be a point when we are like, HEY this is too much.

As far as how I would use this technology, I would be able to see how my students are communicating and what kinds of technology they are using. I could keep in touch with both my students and parents. I do think that this technology could be used to keep the parents involved and informed about their children, without very much effort on the parents part.

Thing #3

A blog can be a great tool in the classroom. I plan to teach Art, and a blog could be a good way to keep parents informed about what their children are doing in the classroom. As a teacher I could create a separate posting for each art project that the students will be working on. The blog could include what materials are being used and an example of what the final project will look like. Some art history about the projects could also be involve as well.

Posting these before each lesson, would inform the students and parents about what projects are coming up. This allows students to dress appropriately and make sure that they have all the special materials, if any needed for the project. This will allow the parents to become involved and know what I am teaching their children.

A blog would also be a good place for students to post suggestions, on what they would like to learn in the classroom, what materials they would like to try or any other ideas they may have.

Thing #2

To be completely honost I did not put much thought into my posting name or the name of my blog. I chose the posting name of Aaaa because my name is Amanda and obviously it starts with an A. As far as the name of my blog, I used my last name and first initial because I have a fairly unique last name and knew that it would not be taken for a blog name.

My experience in creating this blog was a pleasant one, the directions were very clearly outlined and I did not have any issues following them. Creating this blog was over all very easy.

My avatar does resemble me, or at least I tried to make her resemble me. She has brown hair and eyes like me, but other than that, I am not sure that she represents me very well. I like to think that I am unique as a person and my avatar is pretty generic. Overall I am happy with her :)

Thing #1

I believe that for myself habit #2 is the hardest of the habits. Habit #2 is accepting responsibly for you own learning. I am a procrastinator and have to constantly remind my self to stay on task and keep up on all of my school work. I am a mother and that in it's self is a full time job. My education is very important to me and I know that I will be able to keep my self on track, even if I have to constantly remind myself that I am responsible for my own learning.

The easiest of the habits would have to be #1 because I already know where I want to end up and have my end goal in mind. I want to end up teaching in a Art classroom and I know what I need to do to end up there.

Personally I am not a "tech " kind of person. I have never had a blog before and don't know if I will keep one in the future. I hope to learn about the kinds of technology that my future students and going to be using. This blog was easy to set up, so far I am encouraged and ready to complete my 23 things!!
